Types of hearing loss

Conductive hearing loss
Conductive hearing loss occurs when the outer or middle ear cannot properly transmit sound to the inner ear. This can be caused by a variety of obstructions, including earwax plugs, inflammation, ossification (otosclerosis) or torn eardrums. Our experts are trained to identify such obstructions and offer solutions to improve sound conduction.

Sensorineural hearing loss
In sensorineural hearing loss, the sensitive hair cells in the cochlea are damaged or even missing completely. This can have genetic causes or be due to influences such as excessive noise, infections, medication or accidents. Sensorineural hearing loss is more common with age. Our hearing experts are ready to develop customized solutions and ensure the best possible care for people with this type of hearing loss.

Combined hearing loss
Combined hearing loss" is the term used to describe a combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. In this case, both the inner ear and the middle and/or outer ear are affected.

Damage to the auditory nerve
If the auditory nerve itself is damaged or absent, this leads to complete hearing loss. In such cases, conventional hearing aids or cochlear implants are not effective because the sound signals cannot be transmitted from the ear to the brain. The only solution is a brainstem implant. This is a complex medical procedure that must be carefully planned and performed.

Causes of hearing loss:

  • Noise
  • Increasing age
  • Inheritance
  • Infections and diseases
  • Medication, smoking and alcohol
