Widex hearing aids

Widex was founded in 1956 by Christian Tøpholm and Erik Westermann in Denmark. The company achieved an international breakthrough in 1964 with the Widex 641, the first Behind-the-ear hearing system. It was not until 1983 that Widex also produced a In-the-ear system on the market that has a similar High sound quality offers, such as behind-the-ear devices. Phonak is a Swiss company that goes back to the "AG für Elektroakustik" founded in Zurich in 1947. In 1965, the company passed into the ownership of Ernst Rihs, the father of Andy and Hans-Ueli Rihswho soon take over the company. Signia hearing aids (Siemens)

American William F. Austin founded a hearing aid repair service in Minnesota in 1967. Soon the repair store developed into a company that developed advanced hearing aids. As early as 1971, Austin bought the earmold company "Starkey Laboratories" and transferred the name "Starkey" to the whole company.

Starkey has been producing since the 90s of the last century digital hearing aids and since 2004 has maintained a own research center in California. Oticon hearing aids

Dane Hans Demant was always concerned about giving his hearing-impaired wife Camilla a better life. In 1904, he traveled to London to buy her a hearing aid. This led to the founding of his company, which acoustical products imported to Denmark. After Hans' early death in 1910, his son William Demant took over the company. Trade restrictions during World War I meant that Demant was soon manufacturing hearing aids himself from suitable preliminary products. He travels a lot and brings much experience into the products. In 1946, he and the American Charles Lehman founded the American-Danish company Oticon, based in Copenhagen.

Many hearing aid manufacturers have their roots in Denmark, as does the GN company. In the early 1960s, three friends and business partners, Fred Stork, Rolf Strothmann and Rolf Dohmer, founded the company on the Atlantic island Newfoundland founded the company "Universal Electronics" in Canada. The company was initially involved in the sale and repair of radio and television sets. Until then, Canada was an untapped market for hearing aids, so the company turned its attention to hearing systems.
